| Hi, my name is Sean O'Malley, and I'm the person behind Touring History. My love of history began when I was about five years old. My grandfather, a decorated veteran who earned the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts, took me to Andersonville, the site of the Civil War prison camp in Georgia. Even at that young age, something about standing in a place where history actually happened stayed with me. Seeing the photographs, artifacts, monuments, and other pieces of the past sparked a fascination that has remained with me ever since. Over the years, that fascination became more than simply visiting historic places. I wanted to know the stories behind them. That's why I created Touring History. When I visit a battlefield, cemetery, historic building, monument, or forgotten location, I don't want to see only a name on a marker or a date carved into a headstone. I want to discover who those people were, what happened there, and why their stories still matter. Through Touring History, I visit these places, research the people and events connected to them, and share what I discover. For me, history isn't just something written in a book. It's all around us-and sometimes the most fascinating stories are waiting in places most people pass by without ever knowing what happened there. - Sean O'Malley Founder, Touring History |
